From One Artist to Another
Whether you’re just beginning or feeling unsure in your journey, this is for you.
1. There’s No One “Right” Way
Every mentor I learnt from had their own style, different products they preferred to use, own techniques and own preferred tools, and all of them worked beautifully.
That’s when I understood: makeup isn’t a formula, it’s an art.
2. Rules? Just Starting Points
The more I learn, the more I trusted my own instincts.
Yes, learn the techniques, but always leave space for your artist’s intuition to flow.
That’s where the magic begins.
3. Mistakes Are Part of Mastery
Messing up doesn’t mean you’re not good.
Every great artist knows: what matters is how you recover, refine, and learn.
Mistakes are invitations to grow.
4. Certificates Aren’t a Must
You don’t need a cert to be a Makeup Artist. What you need is passion, practice, and the right mentor who guides you toward your vision faster.
5. Your Style Is Your Superpower
All my teachers had wildly different styles. And all of them were thriving.
My style is elegant glam natural-enhancing makeup and when I owned it, the right clients found me.
💡 Your style will attract your tribe. The people who love it will find you.
6. Make Every Client Feel Seen
Communicate clearly so each client feels seen
Even with your own signature as an artist, no two clients see “beauty” the same way.
Asking the right questions, listening closely, and understanding their preferences helps you deliver a look that’s uniquely them
7. Everyone Develops Their Own Style
Even if you learn the same techniques in the same class, your outcome will be different. Because your hands, your eye, and your heart are unique.
That’s the beauty of being an artist.
8. Fewer Products. More Mastery.
When I lacked confidence in a technique, I kept buying more products. Hoping one would be the magic fix. For brows, I had so many types because I didn’t truly understand what worked.
But once I developed the skill, I realised I only needed one reliable product to create beautiful results. The rest? Just noise, driven by fear and consumerism.
I learned that real confidence doesn’t come from a heavy kit. It comes from truly understanding how to use what you have.
You don’t need 20 shades of foundation. Just a few core tones – light, medium, dark, and the artistry to mix and customize them beautifully.
Skill replaces the need to overcompensate. Mastery brings clarity and confidence.
9. Product Knowledge Changes Everything
The right tools, products, shades and techniques can completely transform your artistry.
✨ 10. Every Client is Unique
No two faces are the same.
Learning a wide range of techniques helps you adapt and enhance every face.
That’s when you grow from MUA to Artist.
Final Note: From Me to You
If you’ve been feeling lost, overwhelmed, or like you’re “not ready” — please remember:
You don’t need to know it all.
You just need to start, stay curious, and stay true to your style.
Your growth as an artist isn’t measured by how many trends you follow.
It’s measured by how deeply you understand your tools, your clients, and most importantly, yourself.
Keep going. Keep learning.
And most of all, keep creating.
Hope this helps. God Bless! 💖
With love,
Tracy Immanuel
